EXCITED children have been inspired to become bakers.

Year 5 pupils at Rudheath Primary Academy were surprised to discover how easy it is to make bread.

Expert baker Paul Graves from Roberts Bakery treated them to a bread making masterclass, guiding them through the process of mixing, kneading and shaping the dough to create a tasty loaf.

Roberts Bakery has visited the school many times and has shown hundreds of pupils how to make the perfect loaf.

Paul said: “It’s fantastic to inspire youngsters to roll their sleeves up and have a go at making their own bread. The children learnt that it’s easy and fun to make a tasty loaf from just a few ingredients.

"Some children don’t get the chance to bake at home so this visit has given them new baking skills and the confidence to give it a try.”

The loaves were baked in the school oven.

Year 5 teacher Ellie Fisher, who organised the master class with fellow teacher Tara Smith-Shelton, said: "Children watched their bread rise and took their freshly baked loaves home. Some of them enjoyed it so much they said they would love to become bakers.

"Roberts Bakery is only across the road from our school. A lot of the children's parents and families work there.

"Paul told them how they could add various other ingredients such as chocolate or tomato cup a soup. They were excited to go home and think of their own recipes.

"We have set that as a homework challenge."

The baking session formed part of the children's food and technology lessons.
