TWO men who have struggled with their mental health are helping others in need of support.

Scott Parker and Kieran Jones have launched a mental health wellbeing group at The Bridge at Leigh on The Avenue on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm.

Last year, support worker Scott, from Leigh, suffered with depression and anxiety which left him in hospital.

After completing a Tough Mudder obstacle course challenge with Kieran in aid of mental health charity Mind, they became friends and worked together on setting up a support group.

The weekly Road to Recovery group also provides online help via social media messages.

Dad-of-two Scott , 32, said: “To be part of a group that is clearly helping people makes me feel proud that we are giving something back to our community.

"It is working and helping people to improve their mental health.

“By planning the weekly sessions and talking to people who are in need through our online group keeps me motivated and keeps my mind clear.

“We welcome anyone to our support groups and promise they will always get a warm welcome from the team.”

A therapist also attends the sessions to offer professional advice.

Kieran, who has battled mental health problems of his own, said: “I would like to offer our support to all who are suffering and assure people it will be very relaxed and very confidential.

“We ran our first meeting on January 9 and it went really well. We had a good turn out and received some very positive feed back.”

Kieran also reserved praised for Scott and secretary at The Bridge at Leigh, Dorothy Bowker.

It was Kieran, from Bamfurlong, who set up the Facebook support page.

He added: “Since setting the page up and planning various events it has grown beyond anything I ever thought.

“It has connected me with people I can call friends for life like Scott.”
