A "BUBBLY" woman has celebrated her 100th birthday in style.

Elsie Kelly, from Atherton, was treated to a party last week with live music at the Ambergate housing scheme on Lee Street, where she lives.

Elsie, who has two stepchildren, worked as a bus conductor during the Second World War and was then employed at a canning factory in Boothstown.

Independent Elsie, whose maiden name was Butler, regularly attends St Michael and All Angels' Church, Howe Bridge and joins in with the choir at events.

Her sister Jean, 84, said: "Elsie really enjoyed her birthday.

"Her friends went to the party on the Friday and our family went to see her the following day.

"She also received a card from the Queen."

Elsie's mum Frances reached the age of 104.

Elsie regularly goes to Beautique on Market Street where she gets her nails treated.

And ahead of her birthday she got long pointy nails, something she said she always wanted if she made it to her landmark age.

The staff also treated her to a special cake, a bottle of Prosecco and a balloon.

The team got a 1920s cigarette holder for her as well.

Nail technician Suzanne Wilkinson, who done Elsie's nails, said: "Elsie has always been a bit extravagant with her nails and always said she wants lovely long pointy nails if she makes it to 100.

"She is really fun, always happy and bubbly and always has stories to tell.

"She is an amazing lady."
