THE Marionettes Morris Dancers in Tyldesley have bought new dresses for the start of the season after receiving a £1,500 cash boost.

The grant for the dance troupe, which includes around 50 dancers aged from one to 38, was provided by Brighter Borough funding money from the six Tyldesley and Astley and Mosley Common councillors.

The troupe was set up in 1972 and competes in North West competitions and an annual event in Prestatyn at the end of the season.

In a statement, the group's committee said:”We would like to thank the Brighter Borough Fund from Tyldesley councillors and Astley and Mosley common councillors for their generous contribution towards our troupe.

"This money has enabled us to purchase new dresses for the start of our upcoming season.

"This means we can keep the cost down for all our dancers and make it possible for our troupe to be a second family for all of our dancers.”
