HERE are seven events coming up in the area soon:

Gig for Martyn

LIVE music will be performed on Sunday, February 16 in support of Leigh Centurions player Martyn Ridyard, who is celebrating his testimonial season this year.

Artist Noel Fraser will be playing at Leigh Rugby Union Club on Hand Lane at 8pm.

The event will include a pie and pea supper and a free prize draw.

Several players are expected to be in attendance.

Tickets are £10.

Story of Lowry

LEIGH Film Society is screening Mrs Lowry and Son at Spinners Mill Cinema on Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14.

The film, which will air at 7.30pm, stars Vanessa Redgrave and Timothy Spall and tells the story of artist L.S. Lowry and the relationship with his mother, who tries to dissuade him from pursuing his passion.

Tickets cost £5 for non-members over 15. Doors open for 6.30pm.

People can bring their own drink, food and nibbles.

Irish dance classes

MOHAN school of Irish dancing is looking for more people to join their classes.

The classes, which take place on Fridays from 5.30pm to 7pm, are hosted at St Ambrose Church Hall, on Manchester Road, Astley.

Lessons are £3 and open to ages four and over.

Diamond night

ENJOY the hits of Neil Diamond as a tribute performance takes place in Leigh.

The event takes place on the evening of Saturday, February 15 at the Greyhound Hotel.

It runs from 7pm to midnight at the venue on Warrington Road.

Support group

THE Leigh branch of the Wigan, Leigh and District Support Group of Parkinson’s UK will next meet on Wednesday February 26 at 1.30 pm.

The group meet every fourth Wednesday of the month at Kingsleigh Community Centre, next to Kingsleigh Methodist Church in Leigh from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

They have a range of events and provide friendship, support and information to people with Parkinson’s disease and their families.

The group also runs a weekly exercise class on Thursday afternoons at a different venue.

Collectors fair

AN antique and collectors fair will be held at Leigh Leisure Centre on Sunday, February 16.

Art, poetry, musical instruments, military memorabilia and collector coins are some of the items that will be on offer at the Sale Way venue.

The event is set to start at around 9am and finish at 6pm.

Boutique baby sale

A BOUTIQUE baby sale will take place at The Westleigh School on Saturday, March 29.

There will be around 40 stalls at the Westleigh Lane school with pre-loved baby and children’s items.

Entry is £2 for adults and it is free for children. Tickets can be paid for on the door or pre-ordered at boutiquebabysale.co.uk.
