A FORMER teacher was killed in a collision in a Dorset village, a coroner's court has heard.

Pedestrian Peter Bide, of The Street, Charmouth, died at the scene of the collision, at the junction of The Street and Lower Sea Lane, Charmouth, on Thursday, January 23.

An inquest was opened and adjourned into the death of the 90-year-old at Dorset Coroner's Court, Bournemouth Town Hall, on Wednesday, February 5.

Dorset Coroner Rachael Griffin presided over the hearing.

Coroner's officer Ken McEwan told the court: "Police were called following reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.

"Paramedics attended and he was pronounced dead at the scene."

Dorset Police are continuing to investigate the collision.

The cause of death was recorded as chest injuries.

Ms Griffin adjourned the inquest until June 1.
