AN amateur dramatic society scooped two awards in a ceremony on Friday.

The Three Towns Operatic Society won two accolades at the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) North West regional awards in Bolton.

The group, who also received six nominations, were recognised after their production of The Mikado at St Joseph's Hall in Leigh in May 2019.

They picked up the titles of Best Ensemble and Gold Standard Best Poster, which were presented by Liz Hume-Dawson, a district representative for NODA.

She said: ‘The cast had great diction and you could hear every word. The whole cast worked well together and you could see everyone was having a great time."

Rod Dakin, who retired after 20 years of service as a musical director, was nominated for Shining Star Talent Award for his direction in The Mikado.

The Three Towns are now in rehearsal for their upcoming show, White Horse Inn, which will be performed from May 12 to 16 at St Joseph's Hall.
