FOSTER carers and children in care have spoken out about the life-changing impact of fostering in York.
One youngster said being in foster care has given them opportunities to do things they would never have been able to do before, adding: “Being in care has provided me with an extra family who would do anything for me and we all love and respect each other the same.”
There are about 150 children in foster care at any time in York - so the council is always looking for new foster families to join the team.
Foster carer Lesley Craven said: "I’d encourage anyone who’s thinking about fostering to take the leap and find out more.
"You really can change lives.”
Many people consider fostering when their own children have left home and they have more time and space, or when their own children are young, according to Amanda Hatton, the council’s director for children. To find out more visit york.gov.uk/fostering or call 01904 555678.
