Departing owners of a town delicatessen have been thanked for their work in the community.

The High Street Delicatessen was opened by JoJo and Barrie Thomson on High Street, Newtown in October 2015.

But they are now leaving to go travelling in Scandinavia.

For the past three years, the Deli has raised money through tips and fundraising prizes for Rekindle Small Steps; a local charity that does great work to promote and support mental wellbeing for local youngsters.

Their last donation has been a cheque to the charity for £596.75.

Kemal Keeble, Small Steps recovery practitioner said: “Barry and Jo Jo are passionate supporters of the good work Rekindles Small Steps Project carries out in the local community.

“Over the past few years Barry and JoJo have continued to help raise awareness of our charity which supports 16 to 25 year olds who have mental health difficulties in Montgomeryshire.

“We would like to give a big kind thank you to Barry and JoJo and wish them well on their new adventures.”

Having created a community hub with the delicatessen JoJo and Barrie say they are very pleased that Cultivate, a Newtown-based social enterprise which works to connect local people to food, will be moving their shop into the high street premises.

They believe it is the perfect opportunity to combine two very vibrant audiences and continue to provide local people with great produce.

In a joint statement, they said: “It has been a fantastic few years on the high street in Newtown.

“We are excited to be taking fond memories and our knowledge of the Welsh food sector on the road for our travels over the next few months in Scandinavia.”
