A GROUNDWORKER has vowed to install any new York stone slabs given to a church free of charge after thieves ripped up paving over the weekend.
Police were informed just before 7.40am yesterday, Sunday, February 23, by the church warden who came to open up Christ Church, in Eccleston.
It is believed to have happened overnight and as these pictures show, huge slabs of York stone were pulled up and removed from the grounds off Church Lane.
A police spokeswoman said: "We were called by the church warden and told that large slabs of York stone were stolen from the church yard overnight.
"Apparently this has happened before, anyone with information is asked to get in touch by calling 101."
After being shared online, Les Norman who owns Creative Landscapes in St Helens has vowed to do the installation of any new slabs for free.
He said: "It's just horrible that someone would do this to be honest, so when I saw it I got in contact with Sonia at the church and said if they can source the material and new slabs, I will install it for nothing."
