DOG lovers may want to go to Bents Garden and Home in Glazebury this weekend for its Mini Crufts event.

The Warrington Road centre will host a range of competitions on Saturday and Sunday with radio station Radio City's breakfast show host Leanne Campbell playing the master of ceremonies.

The event will have its own show ring complete with winners’ platforms and prizes available in a number of categories, with first, second and third places up for grabs.

The team from Bents' The Pet Place team will also be there.

This year there are seven classes open for competition, with a £5 entry charge.

Anyone wishing to enter should visit The Pet Place to register as places will be limited and booking is required in advance.

Winners will be announced at 10am, 11am, 12 noon,1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm on both days.

Classes include:

  • Finest Senior (9+ years)
  • Adult (18 months – 9 years)
  • Junior (6 – 18 months)
  • Puppy Love (under 6 months)
  • Rescue/Rehomed Dogs
  • Extra-large Breeds
  • Fancy dress darlings

On Sunday, as part of the Mini Crufts event, Bents will be hosting a celebratory dog walk through Windy Bank Woods, starting at The Pet Place at 11am, as well as being joined by the team from Reiki and Your Pet and Digs for Dogs.

Bartley Portrait Studios will also be at Bents throughout the weekend, offering a pet photoshoot with all photos entered into Bents’ Mini Crufts Facebook competition.

The Mini Crufts event marks the start of a month of dog friendly activities including:

Puppy Play: Starting on Wednesday, March 4 and continuing every Wednesday evening from 6pm to 7pm, Bents’ Puppy Play sessions are a perfect way for young dogs to meet, play, socialise and get used to spending time with other dogs in a safe and friendly environment.

Dog Reiki: Improve wellbeing, support healing and strengthen the bond between human and hound by learning about this Japanese based healing process.

Dog Reiki will be taking place at The Pet Place on Sunday, March 1 between 12.30pm – 4.30pm, Tuesday, March 3 and Tuesday, March 10 between 5pm and 8pm.

Guided Dog Walk: On Friday 13th March at 10am there isanother opportunity to take part in Bents’ guided dog walk around the beautiful Windy Bank Woods. A 5K walk starting at The Pet Place and returning for treats at The Pet Café.

Dog Bowl Deli Masterclasses: Experts from Dog Bowl Deli will be sharing their recipes for wholesome and homemade, savoury and sweet treats.

Masterclasses will be taking place in The Pet Place on March 14 and 15 between 12pm-1pm

Dog Breed Meet Up: March is the month for spaniels to meet for a special get together.

On Saturday, March 14, starting at 10am spaniels and their owners will be taken on a guided dog walk through Windy Bank Woods, returning to The Pet Café for treats for both humans and hounds.
