COMEDIAN Roy Chubby Brown is coming to town next week to support a cause that he has a close connection with.

The controversial funnyman will be performing at The Monaco in Hindley on Friday, March 13 in aid of mental health charity Mind.

Event organiser Kieran Jones approached Roy's manager if he would like to take to the Atherton Road stage, and Roy, who lost his son due to mental health issues, signed up for the gig immediately.

Roy's manager Tony Jo said: "Roy agreed to perform at the event organised by Keiran straight away.

"Despite the image of the character he takes on stage Roy is one of the most generous and caring people I have ever met."

Kieran launched a weekly mental health group ,Road to Recovery, at The Bridge at Leigh on The Avenue in January with his friend Scott Parker.

He said: "I’m really looking forward to Roy coming as we crossed paths when I was experiencing very dark days.

"I cannot thank them enough as they didn’t know me but reached out to me and help me to start my recovery."

Roy's team has also allowed Kieran to work on organising events such as a veterans gig in Blackpool.

This has provided an outlet for Kieran in battling his mental health problems.

Kieran, 39, added: "Roy and Tony Jo have saved my life.

"They have been a massive support for me – they are amazing and caring people."

The gig will start at 7.30pm with doors opening an hour earlier.
