CHILDREN at a Hoole nursery have been very busy over the last few months helping wildlife.

The pre school children and toddlers at the Spinney Day Nursery took part in the RSPB’s Wild Challenge where they completed a number of different activities to help the local wildlife.

Since January, they have all been working hard on the different levels of the award, first completing the Bronze Award before working towards the Silver Award and Gold Award.

The toddlers have recently achieved the Bronze Award and the pre school have achieved the Gold Award.

To complete each award level, the children, aged two to four, had to complete a variety of activities that help nature or provide opportunities for the children to experience the natural environment. This has included making bird feeders, animal homes, planting wildflowers, using their senses, bug hunting, taking part in the RSPB’s Big School’s Birdwatch and much more.

Emma Archer, nursery manager, said “The RSPB Wild Challenge has been a fantastic initiative and the children have really enjoyed doing the different activities.

"We focus a lot on helping wildlife at nursery and our Forest School, as it is a great way to support the children’s learning about the natural environment and encourage love for nature.

"We are so proud of the children for their achievement and look forward to continuing to help the local wildlife.”
