AIRBUS has announced its first case of coronavirus in a move likely to see further preventative measures rolled out across its plants.

The employee worked at the company's Getafe in Spain and is receiving medical treatment and anyone who has been in contact with them has been asked to self-quarantine.

The company previous announced precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus across all its plants, including Broughton.

It is expected that the company will update these measures today.

A statement from Airbus said: "Airbus confirms that an employee at its Madrid (Getafe) site in Spain has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now receiving medical attention.

"As a precautionary measure, all co-workers who have been in direct contact with this employee have been asked to self-quarantine by staying at home for the next 14 days.

"Health and safety is our number one priority. Airbus is following medical protocols from global and national health authorities and has implemented staff guidelines in relation to social interactions, hygiene, travel and visits to Airbus."
