IT was the largest pool in Hyndburn and replaced the old Accrington baths on St James Street.

This picture from 1979 shows the main pool at Hyndburn Sports Centre including the popular water slide which was always a favourite with youngsters.

There was also a 10 feet deep diving pool for the more acrobatically-inclined and parents could watch their children in the pool from a balcony area with seating.

On the back wall of the pool area was a large clock which was used when swimming gals were held to time races.
