THE people of St Helens joined others around the UK in standing at the front of their homes and applauding NHS staff working on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Clap For Our Carers campaign saw people stand on their doorsteps, balconies or throw open their windows to clap and cheer at 8pm.

Some people also let off fireworks and sounded their car horns as a show of support, while others put blue lights on their houses.

Star readers shared videos and pictures from across the borough showing people joining in the rousing applause. Some nurses, returning home from shifts, sounding their car horns to say thank you for the appreciation.
