A COUPLE who were on a dream holiday to Australia could be stuck there until May.

Jean Eaton and Alan Abbott, from Great Sankey, flew Down Under on March 1 to visit family and explore the area.

But they soon ran into trouble.

Early on in their holiday they travelled to North Queensland to see the Great Barrier Reef, only for the trip to be cancelled due to a lack of visitors.

Their flights to New Zealand for a trip were then cancelled after the border came home.

So Jean, 81, and Alan, 76, decided to head home.

Jean said: "As the virus was spreading further, we'd better get an earlier flight home than the original date of April 1.

"We managed to get a flight on March 24 but 12 hours before we were due to fly to Dubai they closed the airport.

"We were disappointed again and told there were no flights until May 4.

"We contacted the consulate, travel agent and airline – all to no avail.

"Fingers crossed the government has a scheme to repatriate people."
