DROITWICH musical director and former mayor, Shaun Best, has died following a long illness.

Paramedics attempted to revive Mr Best when he collapsed yesterday but their efforts were unsuccessful, according to a post from the Norbury Cinema and Theatre.

After being elected mayor in 2017, Councillor Best described the role as an ‘enormous honour’ and spoke about growing up in Droitwich.

As well as his time in politics, Mr Best was a passionate music producer and worked with the Norbury Cinema and Theatre for many years.

They shared a tribute to Mr Best on Facebook, it read: "It is with great sadness that we share news of the death of Shaun Best.

"Shaun was deeply involved in the Norbury as far back as the 1970s; his main involvement being with music. Shaun was musical director, composer and arranger for a number of our productions, including the first ever amateur production of ‘High Society’ for which Shaun was band leader. Shaun also spent time running the Norbury bar.

"We understand Shaun had been unwell for some time, but after collapsing yesterday paramedics were sadly unable to revive him.

"We are sure people will have many fond memories of Shaun, particularly his huge talent and passion for music. Our thoughts are with his wife Helen and their family.

"A great asset to the Norbury, Droitwich and music itself, Shaun will be deeply missed."
