TWO more cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the borough, say official figures.

Public Health England figures show that 1,212 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 by 9am Thursday morning (June 4) in the borough, up from 1,210 the same time on Wednesday. A week before, there were 1,199 cases.

It means cases have increased by less than the rate across the UK of one per cent.

They were among the 25,984 cases recorded across the North West, a figure which rose by 93 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.

Across the UK, 281,661 people had tested positive for coronavirus as of 9am on Thursday, up from 279,856 at the same point on Wednesday, Department of Health and Social Care figures show. As of 5pm on Wednesday, 39,904 people had died.
