TWO men have been charged with the murder of a 23-year-old man in Wythenshawe.

Joseph Stott 33 of Hampshire Road, Partington has been charged with murder.

Aiden Matthews, 30 of Lawton Moor Road, Wythenshawe has been charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

They have been remanded in custody and will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court today Monday, June 8.

At around 6pm on Thursday 4 June 2020, police were called to Wythenshawe Road in Wythenshawe to reports that a man had been seriously assaulted.

23-year-old David Allan from Tyldesley was taken to hospital, where he died the following day.

In a statement, his family said: “David was a much-loved son, whose passing has caused much sorrow amongst his friends and family.

“He recently graduated from Plymouth University and had until very recently been working at WH Smith in the Manchester Royal Infirmary despite the coronavirus outbreak – cheerfully serving key workers, patients and visitors alike.

“David was saving his wages to take driving lessons to pursue his career goal of becoming a quantity surveyor.

“David was a keen and active sportsman and for two years was a regular member of the university hockey team.

“At school he loved to fence and shared this passion with children, coaching them at Birmingham University every Saturday.

“He will be very much missed.”

A 39-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman who were arrested on Thursday have since been released under investigation.

Detective chief inspector Alan Clitherow, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, earlier said: “This was a vicious assault which has ultimately resulted in the death of a man and the launch of a murder investigation.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones - to whom I send my condolences at this unimaginable time.

“Dedicated officers are working incredibly hard to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

“I would like to use this opportunity to further our appeal for anyone else who was in the area at the time of the incident and saw or heard anything which may assist us with our enquiries to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“News like this is understandably distressing for those who live in the local community but I want to provide some reassurance by saying that initial enquiries suggest this was an isolated incident, and we are doing everything we can in what is a very fast-moving investigation.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the weekend and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to those officers.”
