REVISED plans for a new Lidl store in Bromborough have been submitted to the council.

The proposals, if approved, will see the replacement of derelict industrial units on land to the corner of New Chester Road and Caldbeck Road with a "modern, spacious supermarket" that could create up to 40 new jobs in the area.

The proposed new Lidl store would have a 1,256sqm sales area, with an in-store bakery, customer toilets and 120 car parking spaces, including two Electric Vehicle charging points.

Details of the proposed development can be found on www.lidl-bromborough.co.uk.

The application follows what a Lidl spokesperson described as "highly positive community feedback" during a recent ‘virtual’ public consultation.

Stuart Jardine, Lidl's regional head of property, said: "We are pleased that the consultation has once again confirmed that we have strong community support for a new store on this site.

"The site is well located, within comfortable walking distance to the centre of Bromborough and connected to the local cycle network.

"A new Lidl supermarket here will provide increased shopping choice and competition for local people.

"Our plans will bring this derelict site back in to use and create up to 40 new full and part-time jobs for local people in the process.

"We now await a decision from Wirral Council and will keep everyone updated on progress in due course."

This is the third planning application for the site and follows a refusal by planning officers under delegated powers last year, on the grounds of change of use for the site, from employment land to retail.

Lidl has also submitted an appeal against the Council's most recent refusal, which will be determined by a planning inspector shortly.

The company expects a decision will be made on the application in the coming weeks.

Residents can view the application on the Council's planning website, using the reference number, APP/20/00773.
