They certainly don’t make slides like that any more! No wonder children were queuing up to have a go on the giant slide in Central Park, Westhoughton, when this photograph was taken in 1963.
As well as this big slide there was also a smaller slide and a sand pit shaped like a boat for youngsters to enjoy.
You can spot the slide experts - they were the children at the top of the ladder who had brought their own piece of carpet or a mat so they could slide down quicker.
