A CORPORATION tram trundles up Bolton Road at the top of Hunger Hill in 1939, passing a well-known landmark along the way.
The Snydale water tower held 200,000 gallons and supplied much of Westhoughton.
At the time of this photograph Bolton Road was the main route between Bolton and Westhoughton. The construction of the M61 changed that turning the road into a cul-de-sac.
The water tower was used until 1980 and it has subsequently been converted into a house.
