POLICE have issued a CCTV appeal after a woman was sexually assaulted by a man believed to have then travelled to St Helens.

British Transport Police has released this CCTV image following the reported sexual assault at Wigan North Western railway station.

At around 5pm on Monday, June 29, a woman was waiting on platform six when two men approached her.

St Helens Star:

One of the men started making inappropriate comments of a sexual nature towards her.

The same man then came behind the woman and put his arms around her, before sexually assaulting her.

The two men then boarded a train and are believed to have alighted at St Helens Central railway station.

St Helens Star:

Officers would like to speak to the man in the image who may have information that could help their investigation.
