THIS week’s picture comes via Nigel Slonker, all the way from New Zealand.
He is pictured on the black and white picture, dated 1969, as a young lad crossing the road.
Nigel tells us that the picture shows Howe Bridge railway station.
Nigel wrote: “This is a copy of a photograph taken from the Leigh side of Howe Bridge Railway station looking towards Atherton.
“Although the photograph says renewing the bridge, I think it was being removed. The young boy is myself with my father Geoff, no idea who took the photograph.”
Does this picture stir memories for anyone? Send your feedback to newsdesk@leighjournal.co.uk.
We welcome submissions of old photographs by email. Send your pictures along with captions, stories and contact details to newsdesk@leighjournal.co.uk.
Pictures of nostalgic scenes in Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley will be considered along with teams, clubs, and workplaces. We’d love to see images from the 80s and 90s.
