A FURTHER 28 residents have tested positive for coronavirus since Monday.

Figures released by Public Health England this afternoon covered both Tuesday and Wednesday, after a technical error prevented an update from being issued yesterday.

In that time, 28 new cases of covid-19 were confirmed across the borough, with 15 new cases reported on Tuesday, and 13 new cases reported today.

So far, 2,119 people have tested positive for coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

The update came as the government announced 77 new coronavirus-related deaths across the UK.

So far, 56,800 deaths have been registered in the UK which mention covid-19 on the death certificate.

A new study released yesterday also found no link between the use of ibuprofen and higher mortality rates from the virus.

Scientists in Britain launched a review to asses ties to the drug and covid-19 after a French health minister advised against the use of the painkiller early in the pandemic.

The study, which examined data from eight British hospitals, found regular use of painkillers did not increase the risk of death.
