A ROAD which has been hit by repeated flooding problems will remain closed today following an inspection.
St Helens Council said a section of College Street "will remain closed today, and likely tomorrow" following heavy rainfall.
The section of road, in the Gerards Bridge area, was shut last night as a "precaution" ahead of this morning's inspection.
The local authority adds that its highways team is monitoring the situation.
Storm Francis led to downpours throughout Tuesday.
Earlier this year, work began on a £330,000 desilting scheme to reduce the flood risk at Gerards Bridge on College Street.
Environment Agency works involved removing silt from the bed of Rainford Brook.
The area flooded at least five times during 2019 leading to regular road closures and frustration for businesses in the area which had remained open and saw trade disrupted.
After the closure, council spokesperson added: “Diversion signs are in place and access to businesses will be maintained."
