THREE people have been arrested after a man was assaulted and his bike stolen in Leigh.

The victim was cycling close to the junction of the guided busway and Holden Road at about 6am on Saturday, August 22 2020 when he was approached by a group of men.

One of the attackers was armed with a piece of wood and hit the cyclist over the back of the head, causing him to fall from his bike.

The man was assaulted again as he lay on the floor.

The group then stole the victim's bike, phone and wallet before leaving the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for a head injury. He has since been released from hospital.

A police spokesman said: "Police have now arrested three men aged 18, 23 and 24 on suspicion of robbery.

"All three have been bailed pending further enquiries.

"Police are continuing to appeal for information following the incident."
