A FIRE broke out in a smoking area on a town centre road in Leigh last night, Friday.

Three fire engines were sent to King Street in a smoking area in a back yard between The Leigh Arms and Cafe Stella at around 9.20pm.

It is thought materials such as cigarette embers caused the fire.

Crews extinguished the flames and were there for around an hour before the scene was made safe.
