A MAN was arrested on suspicion of dealing Class A drugs and money laundering as police searched a car near to Leigh Cenotaph.

Police stopped the vehicle over the weekend and carried out a search of the driver. A man was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

Upon further searches of a suspect and the vehicle, nearly £1,000 in cash, 90 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine, a contact book, numerous phones and a bladed article were found.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of money laundering. Officers seized the car.

The area around the cenotaph has been under focus as a hotspot for crime and anti-social behaviour.

Police recently had held a day of action there following reports of criminality, including drug dealing, near to the war memorial in Leigh town centre.

After the arrest at the weekend, GMP said: "Officers have been acting on information given by the public and when informed about drug dealing around the Cenotaph area of Leigh.

"Officers have stopped a vehicle. After a quick search of the driver under the Misuse of Drugs act, they have arrested him on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

"Further searches of both him and the vehicle resulted in nearly £1,000 recovered and 90 wraps of suspected heroin and crack cocaine, a contact book, numerous phones and a bladed article, he was also arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

"The car was seized as suspected used in crime. He was interviewed and released while further enquiries are on going.
