TRAIN journeys on the way to Salford Crescent were delayed this morning (Wednesday) after a lorry crashed into a railway bridge.
The collision happened at the bridge at Walkden, between Wigan Wallgate and Salford Crescent.
According to Network Rail the lorry then drove off and hit another bridge nearby too.
This impacted on services which take in Hindley, Hag Fold and Atherton stations on their route.
Shortly after 7.30am, Northern Rail said: "Due to a lorry colliding with a bridge between Wigan Wallgate and Salford Crescent trains have to run at reduced speed.
"Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 15 minutes. Disruption is expected until 8am."
Network Rail posted: "Delays to trains between Wigan Wallgate and Salford Crescent because a lorry hit our rail bridge in Walkden - the driver drove off hitting another bridge nearby.
"Dear lorry drivers - please know the heights of your vehicles. Don’t guess."
Services are now running normally again it has since been confirmed.
