A FURTHER 90 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Cheshire West and Chester in the latest one-day Government data released yesterday (October 21).

It means the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the borough now stands at 4,640.

The weekly infection rate for Cheshire West and Chester, based on the seven days up to October 17, is 188.9 (648 cases) per 100,000 people.

Across the UK, there were 26,668 more cases in the latest 24-hour reporting period, taking the total number since the pandemic began to 789,229.

England saw a one-day increase of 22,948 which has taken the overall figure to 669,973.

Meanwhile, the Countess of Chester Hospital did not record any further deaths of patients with coronavirus in the latest 24-hour period.

However, NHS England data did show that East Cheshire hospital trust had reported an additional death.

The total number of patients with coronavirus who have died in Cheshire hospitals now stands at 764.

The Countess of Chester Hospital Trust has recorded 234 deaths (the last on October 18), Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recorded 219 deaths (the last on October 18); East Cheshire NHS Trust 151 (the last on October 19), and Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 160 (the last on October 19).

Across England, a further 94 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 31,275.

Patients were aged between 49 and 97 years-old. All but one patient (aged 71) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from October 14-20, with the majority being on or after October 17.

Their families have been informed.
