POLICE have put a dispersal order in place at Pennington Hall Park in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.
The order has been authorised and began from 4pm on Wednesday and lasts until 11.45pm tonight.
Dispersal orders were introduced as part of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003. They provide the police with the extra powers to break up groups of two or more people, where they believe their behaviour is causing a nuisance, harassment or distress.
In a statement, GMP said: "Leigh neighbourhood are running a specific operation on Pennington Hall Park, Leigh in order to tackle anti-social behaviour.
"A dispersal order has been authorised and is in place from 4pm on October 28 until 11.45pm hours on October 29.
"You will see an increased police presence in the area.
"Anti-social behaviour and mass gatherings will not be tolerated. Fixed penalty notices will be issued for breaches of Covid regulations."
