LEIGH has been given a yellow warning for rain by the Met Office.

A yellow warning is in place for each day until Sunday for Leigh. However, Friday may see drier periods.

The Met Office says "periods of heavy rain may lead to flooding and disruption to transport".

The warning adds:

  • Homes and businesses could be flooded, with possible damage to buildings
  • Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses

The regional forecast says:

Today:

A cloudy day with prolonged rain and strong winds. The heaviest rain is expected over the higher ground accompanied by strong winds, which will also affect the coast. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

The wet and windy weather continues into the evening and overnight with further spells of heavy rain until the early hours. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Friday:

Rain continuing for much of the region through the morning. Becoming drier and brighter by the afternoon with some sunny spells on offer and light winds. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Very unsettled this weekend with spells of heavy rain, particularly over hills. Windy with gales, locally severe around coasts. Turning colder with showers on Monday.
