CORONAVIRUS case numbers have decreased in several wards in Leigh and the surrounding areas in the latest weekly breakdown statistics.

Numbers have gone down in Astley Mosley Common, Atherleigh and also in Atherton ward, which saw just less than 100 COVID-19 cases in the latest figures.

Meanwhile, Hindley, Leigh West and Tyldesley also saw drops in the numbers of cases.

However, there were upturns in Golborne and Lowton West, Hindley Green, Leigh East, Leigh South and Lowton East.

The number of new cases in the borough has decreased compared to this time last week but remains higher than the rates seen regionally and nationally

Wigan borough has the second highest rate of new cases in Greater Manchester for the latest complete week (October 31 to November 6).

Meanwhile, as of October 30, there have been 440 deaths registered for Wigan borough residents that mention COVID-19.

Of these, 35 registrations were in the latest week.

There were 88 deaths from all causes registered in the latest week, an increase of two from the previous week.

Meanwhile, 79 per cent of all COVID-related deaths occurred in hospital, 18 per cent in care homes and three per cent at home.

As of November 10, 93 per cent of all contacts who have been escalated to Wigan's Level 1 teams for a local response have been successfully managed.
