SAINTS wing Tommy Makinson took time out from his preparations ahead of Friday's Grand Final to make surprise a zoom call to a supporter who has been working hard during Covid.

The former Golden Boot called up the unsuspecting fan Julie Houghton, who works at Liverpool's Alder Hey Hospital to thank her for her work.

In the call, arranged by sponsors Dacia, Makinson told Julie: "We think what you are doing at Alder Hey is amazing and we are so proud that you support St Helens.

"Thank you for doing what you are doing sitting on the front line.

"Hopefully we will go back to back and get the win on Friday."

Makinson chatted to Julie's son Aidan who gave a score prediction of a Saints win and advised: "Keep calm, stick to the game plan and try your best."

Afterwards Julie said: “I was in disbelief, it was a real surprise to see Tommy.”
