ONE of Bridge Street's most familiar buildings is set for a massive overhaul.

The former Nobles Amusement and JJB Sport shop is set for a comprehensive revamp if plans submitted this week are approved.

Developers are hoping to put 10 one and two bedroom flats in the upper three floors.

And blueprints would also see four shops created on the ground floor.

The late Victorian building is Grade II listed and has also been home to household names such as the Army and Navy and Wimpy.

It currently lies empty.

Developers say their plans would preserve the current look of the building.

Plans say: "This proposal is for the comprehensive and coherent re-development of an existing vacant building on a key site in Warrington town centre.

"Careful consideration has been given in determining an appropriate layout while keeping the overall massing and design of the existing building. All windows and external details will be retained wherever possible, made good wherever deemed necessary and replaced should the need arise."
