POLICE have shared details of incidents in which vehicles have been stopped and seized in Leigh over recent days.

On Thursday, November 26 officers were carrying out proactive patrols on the Trees estate when an off-road bike made off from them. Shortly after, the same bike was seen again on the Kirkhall Lane and Glebe Street area.

The bike made off from officers but the rider came off it on Chadwick Street. Police say the bike was not road legal and had no insurance and was seized.

Also on Thursday, officers have spotted a Citroen Picasso on the Higher Folds, being driven without insurance. The vehicle was seized and the driver was reported on suspicion of disqualified driving, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, November 28 a BMW X1 has been seen on Wigan Road. On stopping the vehicle and conducting checks, police allege the driver was not insured to drive the car and the vehicle was seized. The driver has been reported on suspicion of driving without insurance and also for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Also, three suspects were stopped in a vehicle on Pennington Road.

Following a search, a quantity of cannabis and cash was seized. The three were arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply.

They were de-arrested after being returned home and will attend the police station for a voluntary interview where they will be questioned.

Meanwhile, a series of proactive vehicle stops throughout the week have led to arrests and further vehicle seizures and reports.

George Ionut, 29, of Irvine Street, Leigh was charged with an offence of dangerous driving and will appear Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, December 30.

This relates to an incident in which a vehicle was allegedly driven towards a member of the public.
