LEIGH MP James Grundy has tested negative for coronavirus, he has confirmed.
The Conservative MP announced earlier this week he was self-isolating due to having coronavirus-like symptoms.
He took part in the vote on the government's Tiers system of restrictions via proxy.
The MP issued a statement today, confirming he has tested negative for the virus and urging anyone with symptoms to get tested.
Mr Grundy said: "I am pleased to say that I received a text message from the NHS yesterday confirming I have tested negative for COVID-19.
"Even though it wasn't COVID-19 this time, it's important we all demonstrate personal responsibility and get tested when suffering symptoms that could represent infection with COVID-19 so we don't infect others and prolong this crisis."
He added: "It is more important than ever, especially now the vaccine is being rolled out, that we don't become complacent.
Until the vaccine is administered, the elderly and vulnerable are still particularly at risk."
People can arrange to visit a testing centre or get a home test kit via the NHS website on gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
