PLANS are afoot to turn a day nursery building into residential houses.

Proposals have been drawn up to convert the building on the junction of Park Road North and Willow Road, Newton-le-Willows.

The building, which has been the base of Briar Cottage Nursery, is to be subdivided into two homes subject to planning approval.

An application has been submitted by applicants Perfect Living Group.

A design and access statement, by planning agents MSA Architects, says: "The building has been in use as a children's nursery for many years and has only recently, within the last month, been vacated and sold to the applicant.

"The applicant seeks to convert the building back to its original residential use however it is of such a size as to be not viable as a single dwelling."

Plans are on consultation until Monday, February 1.
