A BUSINESS is helping collect old laptops to refurbish for children who are studying at home who need them.
Software firm Nemiah, based on Bold Street, Leigh along with Leigh Works; Express IT and The Rotary Club are collecting old laptops, turning them into Chromebooks and giving them to schools for pupils who do not have access to a laptop at home.
The issue of 'digital poverty' has come under the spotlight during the coronavirus lockdown.
Steven Tomlinson, founder of Nemiah, said: "We’re trying to turn this around as soon as possible to help with the pressing need during this lockdown.
"We need to raise awareness, get more schools involved, get more laptops donated find suppliers of SSDs.
"We’ve put together a simple website that explains everything and allows schools to enrol.
It also shows exactly how may kids need laptops and how many have been donated."
