POLICE used a Taser to help restrain a suspect after criminal damage was inflicted on a property.

Police received reports of damage being caused to a house on Maple Crescent, Leigh.

The back windows had been smashed, police say.

In a statement on the evening of Thursday, February 11, Greater Manchester Police said: "Following reports of damage on Maple Crescent in Leigh officers have attended a property.

"Whilst in the address offenders have smashed the rear windows of the property.

"A Taser was deployed by an officer and two suspects were detained following a brief struggle, during which an officer was assaulted."

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

A 32-year-old woman has been arrested for an assault on an emergency worker.

Enquiries are ongoing.
