A 17-year-old boy has been charged after police chased a car from Leigh through Bolton.

Police spotted a vehicle being driven suspiciously in Leigh and attempted to stop the vehicle at 11.30am yesterday (Sunday).

However, the person drove off at speed and was then followed through Atherton and Little Hulton, according to police.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "The vehicle was then pursued through residential streets in Little Hulton and then Farnworth before the occupants abandoned the vehicle on Leverhulme Avenue in Great Lever.

"Other officers arrived to contain the area and the driver was detained shortly after following a successful track from GMP Dogs.

"Officers from Bolton West and Bolton North Neighbourhood Teams then took over the investigation, obtaining CCTV from along the route, speaking to witnesses, and interviewing the suspect."

Police say a boy has been charged with a number of offences including driving while disqualified, breach of a criminal behaviour order, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without insurance.

He is set to appear in court as soon as possible, according to police.
