NEWLY promoted Leigh Centurions are set to give debuts to former Wigan winger Lewis Tierney and half-backs Joe Mellor and Blake Wallace for Friday's Super League opener against Wigan.

Coach John Duffy has also included hooker Josh Eaves, who is on loan from St Helens.

The Centurions will be without scrum-half Jamie Ellis, centre Junior Sa'u and former Wigan prop Ben Flower due to injury and the game has come too soon for overseas recruits James Bell, Brendan Elliot and Nathan Peats.

Leigh 21-man squad: Ryan Brierley, Matty Russell, Iain Thornley, Lewis Tierney, Blake Wallace, Joe Mellor, Liam Hood, Mark Ioane, Ben Hellewell, Jordan Thompson, Matty Wildie, Alex Gerrard, Nathaniel Peteru, Matty Gee, Nathan Mason, Adam Sidlow, Tyrone McCarthy, Keanan Brand, Josh Eaves.

Wigan will be without half-back Jackson Hastings for Friday's opening Betfred Super League match against promoted Leigh at Headingley.

The 2019 Man of Steel has only been back in the country a fortnight after being given permission to extend his close-season trip back to Australia and, according to coach Adrian Lam, will be restricted to water-carrying duties on Friday.

"Due to Jackson's delayed arrival, we feel that he needs another week of training in the team sessions and environment before he will be selected," Lam said.

"It's great to have him back in training - he has lifted the intensity since his arrival. He's an important part of our team and brings us a completely different dimension - we can't wait for him to be back involved.

"Jackson will play a part in Friday's game as part of the group and will be running messages to his team-mates on and off the field."

The Warriors will also be without Bevan French after his return from Australia was similarly delayed - Zak Hardaker will revert to full-back - but new signing Jai Field could make his debut in the halves after being named in Lam's 21-man squad.

Both first-choice wingers Liam Marshall and Dom Manfredi and centre Oliver Gildart are absent through injury.
