LOCAL heroes across the borough will be recognised at an awards ceremony in June.
Submissions to the Our Town awards, which will celebrate all those who go above and beyond to make their neighbourhood a better place, have reopened after they were postponed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
And in response to the extraordinary lengths individuals and community groups have gone to during the pandemic, a new ‘Covid-19 superheroes’ category has been added.
Cllr Chris Ready, cabinet member for communities and culture at Wigan Council, said: “From those working on the frontline of the pandemic to those who have volunteered to do their neighbour’s weekly shop - the chances are we all know someone who goes the extra mile to be kind, especially in the last 12 months.
“The pandemic has shone a light on the amazing contribution our community groups and individuals make on our borough and it seems only right that we do something to thank them.”
Residents have until midnight on Sunday, April 25 to submit their online nomination. Submit your online nomination on bit.ly/31uxMDB.
The awards ceremony will be held virtually during Volunteer Week in June.
Further details will be announced following the closing date.
