MINDLESS vandals set fire to the grass verge near a stop on the guided busway in Tyldesley this afternoon.
A fire engine from Bolton North was sent to the stop at Hough Lane at around 2.10pm following reports that children had set fire to the grass verge.
But when the crew arrived the blaze was already out.
Watch manager Gubbins warned that the conditions could have made the fire much more dangerous though.
He said: "The grass is really dry at the moment and the fire could have spread really quickly.
"The people who are doing this need to be more mindful of what they are doing.
"There could have been another more important job to attend at the same time too.
"I do not think they think about this."
