RESIDENTS living in sheltered accommodation in Morris Green are being plagued by a wave of anti-social behaviour on a parking area.

Complaints have been made by some living on Ancroft Gardens that people are using a parking spot to take drugs, drink alcohol and dump hoards of litter with laughing gas cannisters regularly discovered.

Occupants are constantly disturbed by people pulling up in cars and leaving engines running along with the sound of vehicle doors banging.

The anti-social behaviour usually happens from late afternoon going into the night, with residents frequently woken up and having their sleep interrupted.

Raised voices and shrieking have often been heard at the gathering spot as well.

Harper Green Cllr Sue Haworth has been told the problems have been taking place for months.

She said: “This is unpleasant anti-social behaviour especially so for those living in retirement in sheltered housing.

"There is a good neighbourhood policing team in the area.

"I will be in touch with the team as the regular police surgeries held near by have not been occurring in lockdown so less residents have been in touch with them.

"A couple of the residents are raising whether the answer would be for the parking area to be restricted access which is the case in some sheltered housing areas and this needs discussion with Bolton at Home.”

Bolton at Home is working with police on the matter and says it is committed to keeping residents safe.

Group chief executive of Bolton at Home, Jon Lord, said: “We’re looking at the status of the parking area but would encourage residents to report any criminal activity to their local policing team.

"As a housing provider, we’ll always work with partners including the police to protect and support our communities as much as possible.”

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted about the issue.
