A BOY who was arrested on suspicion of raping a 14-year-old girl on Thursday has been bailed, police say.

The girl was walking on open land to the south of Westleigh Park, Leigh between 4pm and 5.30pm when she was approached by a male who pulled her into bushes before raping her.

A boy, also aged 14, was later arrested by police and questioned by detectives.

A team of detectives are continuing with their investigation and increased police presence will remain in Westleigh Park area over the coming days.

Police say there is not believed to be any wider threat to the public.

Superintendent Mark Kenny of GMP's Wigan District said: "While people in the area will continue to see an increased police presence this evening and over the coming days, I would like to stress that we don't consider there to be any wider threat to the public following this attack.”
