THEY did not manage to walk away with £10,000.

But Birchwood twins Kristen and Caitlin Welch now have a taste for the spotlight after appearing on new game show, I Can See Your Voice.

The 25-year-old sisters were on tonight's episode of the BBC One programme where they were unable to correctly guess who was the real singer out of a group of imposters.

Caitlin said: "Those watching at home may think it’s easy or that they could do it but it’s so hard."

I Can See Your Voice – based on a South Korean show – revolves around contestants guessing who can and can’t sing from a group without any of them uttering a single note until the end of a selection process.

Assisted by Jimmy Carr, Amanda Holden and TV personality Alison Hammond, contestants instead have to watch closely for body language clues during lip sync challenges before whittling the group down to one 'singer'.

Caitlin said: "I feel like we’re quite confident people but we were so nervous. We were full of adrenaline. It was so fun but we literally passed out as soon as we got back to the hotel."

Kristen, speaking before the episode aired, added: "It helped a lot that we were doing it together. We couldn’t have done it by ourselves.

"I keep wondering how they’ve edited it and how it’s going to come across on the telly. You forget that you’ve got so many cameras pointing at you and we’ll say anything to each other."

The opportunity came about after Kristen and Caitlin's Instagram page and their natural chemistry together won over the show's producers.

Caitlin, a legal assistant, said: "We started an Instagram page at the beginning of the first lockdown. Kristen was on maternity leave and I was on furlough and had loads of time free. We just got contacted through that.

"We got a message one day about the show and at first we didn’t think it was real but after a couple of calls we ended up agreeing to it.

"It came as a surprise that this sort of thing could come from Instagram."

Since setting up the Instagram page, the twins have gained more than 6,000 followers in a little over a year and a video they did on TikTok went viral and now has around two million views.

Kristen, mum to 15-month-old Tilly, added: "We’ve been approached for things like this in the past but we’ve always turned it down but when lockdown hit we made a decision to say yes to everything.

"We thought let’s just go for it and now things have started to happen."

They were among the first to record an episode of the show, which is presented by Paddy McGuinness, at Maidstone Studios.

Filmed in November, they had to self-isolate for two weeks, take two Covid tests and then isolate in a hotel room before being invited to the shoot.

Kristen, who works in recruitment, said: "Every precaution was being taken to make it really safe and people had masks on when we weren’t filming.

"We couldn’t go near any of the judges which was a shame as we like: ‘Can we get a picture with them?’

Caitlin said: "It’s amazing that we can do this sort of thing together. We wouldn’t have it any other way."

Kristen added: "It was a totally different experience. We want to do more. I’m thinking: What else can I sign up for?"
