THE cause of a fire which saw an ambulance burst into flames is believed to have been an accident, say Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters were called to Mill Lane, Newton-le-Willows, on Saturday, May 15 following reports of an ambulance on fire at 5.30pm.
One fire engine attended and on arrival the crew found a fire involving the engine compartment and cab of the vehicle heavily involved in fire.
The occupants of the vehicle were out when crews arrived.
The road was closed while firefighters dealt with the fire.
An ambulance had been sent to assist the crew and carry some equipment to a North West Ambulance Station.
No one was injured.
Fire crews left the scene at 6.15pm.
